“People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don’t know each other; they don’t know each other because they have not communicated with each other.” ~MLKJ

I think this quote means that if we take time to get to know each other, humans would not be so divided. We can’t see the value in becoming allies with someone if we don’t know their strengths and weaknesses, their emotions and opinions, or their loyalty and generosity. If all humans got to know each other and learn to trust each other, we would be united. We fear the unknown, but if we got to know it, we would not be afraid of it. That is what I think MLKJ was trying to say.

“No one really knows why they are alive until they know what they’d die for.” ~~MLKJ

I think this quote means that without a purpose, life would mean nothing. We would not find value in life without something that we would give it up for. Whether it is for someone you love, something you love doing, or a cause important to you, life without something to die for is worthless. If we did not have something that we would die for, we would not do anything to continue our life. That is what I think MLKJ was saying.
