“You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.” ~~ Regina Brett

I think this quote means that it is okay to have a different opinion than someone else, but you shouldn’t get into an argument about it. If you don’t like someone else’s opinion, agree to disagree. Acknowledge others’ opinions and support your own. Just because you are competitive and don’t like it when peers differ from your assessment doesn’t mean you should start a debate. Let them keep their own perspective and rely on yours. Just as Regina Brett said, “You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.”

“Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.” ~~ Dalai Lama

My perspective on what Dalai Lama is trying to say in this quote is that you should embrace change, but that doesn’t mean that you should change who you are. If you are going through a tough time, that doesn’t mean you should become a completely different person or isolate yourself from others. When something changes, don’t freak out and try to change your personality to adjust. Adapt to change, but don’t change who you are. Embrace change. Be yourself. That is the message I perceived from this quote.

I think this quote means that if you go through something tough, that doesn’t make you feel sad. You are choosing to be sad. You can let yourself cave in when someone insults you, or you can let it bounce off of you and stay positive. You control your emotions, and if you choose to get upset, then you will get upset. You can’t just think “I will be positive and not get upset.” You have to act positive and then your feeling will follow your actions. If you choose to be positive during tough times, you will feel positive and that can rub off on others, too. “No one is in charge of your happiness except you.” You are the only one who can make you feel happy or sad or angry, and if you learn to control those emotions, then you are able to choose how you feel.

“One determined person can make a significant difference. A small group of determined people can change the course of history.” ~~ Sonia Johnson

I think this quote means that one person can make a big difference, but if we work together, we can do something great. If we work together, we can achieve our goals and succeed in life. One person can put together a few pieces of the puzzle, but multiple people can put together the whole puzzle by combining their knowledge and contributing with the pieces they have. We achieve more if we work together and are determined to get it done, and that is the message I believe Sonia Johnson is trying to convey in this statement.

I think Steve Jobs is trying to tell us to be ourselves. If we hide our true personalities from the rest of the world and try to be more like someone else, we will never be truly happy. If you waste your time trying to be someone else, you won’t have fulfilled your life and people will never see you for the person you truly are. Steve Jobs is trying to convey the message that we won’t live forever and if we spend our entire lives trying to be somebody else, then we will have wasted our time on this Earth. We should strive to be ourselves, and if we do, we will have fulfilled our lives and made the most of them.

For the final few months of the school year, I want to both try to keep my grades up, and strengthen my academical and social self where and when I can. I also want to work on paying attention and staying on track. In terms of academically strengthening myself, I feel I need to work on math and trying not to get answers wrong so I don’t have to fix as many when I am working on them at home. As well as math, I want to become the most powerful and persuasive writer I can be so I can go farther in the near future. With regards to strengthening my social personality, I want to be kind and helpful so I can develop a good reputation. That is what I want to do for the rest of the school year.

“Our character is what we do when we think no one is looking.” H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

I am inspired by this quote. I think Jackson Brown meant that our personality is defined by our integrity. If we are reckless or dishonest, then we will be defined as a dishonest person. If we are generous and tell the truth, we will be looked at as a good person. It all depends on what we do when no one is looking. If we strive to be a good person, then we should always do the right thing.

Do you believe in ghosts? Why or why not?

I don’t believe in ghosts. I don’t believe in ghosts because of three reasons. The first reason I don’t believe in ghosts is because they have never been scientifically proven to be real. The second reason I don’t believe in ghosts is because of all they tales about ghosts that I have heard, none of them seem logical enough. The third reason I don’t believe in ghosts is because why the heck would there be spooky white silhouettes just floating around in the air? To me, it just doesn’t make sense. Anyway, this is why I don’t believe in ghosts.

This quote is beautiful. I think that Mao Tse-Tung meant that we limit our imaginations too much. If we lift ourselves up and look at things in a new way, we could see the world in an entirely different view. We could let the ideas flow and improve our lives, or we could limit ourselves and not have any ideas to make our civilizations better.
